I have collected the H1 B visa experiences published in this blog by searching various websites and by spending lot of time. Since I didn’t find some of their mail id’s there I couldn’t take permission from all the people whose H1b visa experiences I have posted here in this blog. Anyhow because their intention was also to share their experience with others so i had posted without their permission, but i took acceptance from few of them. I thought of posting both success and failure experiences of H1B visa stamping. If you would like to share your experience too, please send it to satyadon@gmail.com.

Successful Stamping at Chennai Consulate

Hi All,

Just wanted to share my experience at the Chennai Consulate. My stamping was for Visa Revalidation case (same employer, H1 extension)

Took the Appt thru VFS and secured the interview date and time. Was given a 2:00pm interview time. Got to the consulate gates at 1:45pm and waited for abt 10 minutes before the security let us in.

NOTE: If you are with Small Children (less than 5), You won't have to wait and you will be let into the consulate immediately

Once you enter, you come to a room with many windows. Go to any open window and hand over all y our documents to the person behind the counter. They will verify and put passport, DS forms and I797 petition in a separate folder and give it back to you.

NOTE (Photo): Please take your Photo in INDIA. Photos taken in the US are NOT Accepted (problem arises during scanning of your photo). This will cost you an addition of Rs200-300 as you will have to take an Auto to go to the nearest studio and they will charge you more for expedited service

Once done, you will have to wait till your interview time is called out. When this is done, you move from this bldg towards the main bldg. There were many people lined up outside the entrance with timings from 1:00pm onwards. We were let in after waiting for about 30 mins.

Once you enter the main Bldg, you will be escorted towards a particular counter for Finger printing. Once done, you will be asked to be seated till your interview time is called again. Since Ours was a Re-validation case, I asked one of the personals there and he took us to a counter at the back. The lady at the counter took the passports, saw our valid visa and immediately gave back the supporting documents. She entered a few information and told us we would recieve our passport by courier (NO QUESTIONS ASKED as Re-Validation case).

Total Wait at the Consulate:
10 mins at the outside gate
30 mins to enter Main bldg
15 mins in Fingerprinting line
15 mins before I check with the Consulate personal
